Choosing a name for your website and podcast is an important first step, not to be taken lightly. Ideally, it should be both meaningful and memorable.
Mum Speak
We chose Mum Speak because we wanted a name that reflected moms getting together to chat. Maybe over tea and cookies, maybe at a local coffeehouse, maybe even over drinks during happy hour, or a walk pushing a stroller. We wanted it to give the feeling of meeting a friend to easily discuss all things related to mothering.
Mum’s the Word
Being completely honest, the names Mom Talk and Mom Chat were already taken, so we started looking at alternate names for Mom. We started with Mum. I mean who doesn’t love a British mum? It conjures images of sweet ladies pushing prams and just being lovely all around. Plus, my daughters went through a phase in their teen years where they called me (Pam) Mum, and sometimes call me that today when they’re being especially cheeky. And finally, when you break the word down to M-UM it gives a wink and a nod to my other website called Unmastered. A website I created a few years ago about not being a pro at anything, having nothing in life mastered, and how life itself is a work in progress. Are you sensing a theme here? Mum Speak is about Mothering UnMastered. Because none of us truly ever get it completely figured out. Moms are always learning, growing, and adapting.
You are Welcome Here
So welcome to Mum Speak. Whether you are a newer mom, like Cayden, or a seasoned mom, like Pam, or anything in between or after, we hope you will find something you can relate to. Maybe we’ll agree, or maybe we’ll respect our differences, but we welcome you to our “village” where we can all come together to exchange ideas.
